Jon Mayhew Anderson

Born in Red Bluff, California in 1984,  Jon began playing the horn during high school after starting his musical studies on trumpet.  He gained immediate success upon switching to the horn, performing with the prestigious CBDA All State Wind Ensemble and the Sacramento Premiere Symphony.  Earning merit scholarship to several colleges, Jon chose to attend the University of California at Davis, from which he graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering and Technology Management with a minor in Music Performance on French Horn.  During this time Jon was principal horn of the Davis Symphony Orchestra, also performing with the Martha Graham Dance Company, the San Francisco Opera Adler Fellows, and the San Francisco Bay Brass.  Notable performances include a benefit concert for Izaak Perlman at the Robert Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts, a prelude concert for the Philadelphia Orchestra, and a solo performance of Morceau de Concert by Camile Saint-Saëns (with the Davis Chamber Orchestra). 


In 2009 (following 2 years of doctoral studies in Electrical Engineering at UC Davis), Jon was given near full scholarship for his Master of Music degree at Boston University under the direction of Eric Ruske.  While in Boston, Jon performed as a member of the Boston Civic Symphony, and also appeared with the Boston Philharmonia and Berklee New Music Ensemble.  In 2010, Jon was a semifinalist in the USA International Music Competition.  Currently, Jon is pursuing a Doctorate of Musical Arts on Horn at the Frost School of Music -  University of Miami, under the direction of Professor Richard Todd.  Jon also plays with the Florida Grand Opera, the Ars Flores Symphony, Miami Symphony Orchestra, the Category 5 Brass Quintet, and other South Florida groups.
